Bienvenue en France, Welcome to the French Riviera, Welcome in Antibes-Juan-les-Pins for the 38 th ICMART World Congress (November 7-9, 2025) organized by the French Acupuncture Federation fOr Research and MEdical Care (FAFORMEC) with the support of our Belgian and Swiss neighbours and friends (ABMA & ASA) as well as French midwives. The theme : “Cure, Care, Evidences, Teaching and Research”.
France, fertile land of Acupuncture : beginnings in the first half of 19th century, Louis Berlioz (father of Hector Berlioz, the famous musician), Jean-Baptiste Sarlandière (electroacupuncture,1825), Alfred Velpeau (inventor of the tape for bandage), Jules Cloquet,1826, … but these early beginnings collapsed by lack of real masters, approximate translations of Asian books concerning that field and some unsuccessful experiences. After enthusiasm came doubt and fear. Acupuncture kept a negative connotation until the thirties of the 20 th century. This is the moment when the real traditional, medical and scientific acupuncture arose with Soulié de Morant “Précis of the True Acupuncture”,1934. His main book 鍼灸法, “Chinese Acupuncture”, published in 1957, includes an Atlas of the acupuncture points and meridians designed on “écorchés”. From France, acupuncture spread to other western European countries. The success of acupuncture in Europe participated to stop the decline of the Chinese traditional medicine in its mother country, China (Dr Fang Zun-ngen, Shanghai,1937).
Nowadays medical acupuncture has conquered all the western countries. It is spanning worldwide and ICMART participates to the success of this extension.
In France, acupuncture can be practiced only by medical doctors after a specific training. In the fifties and later, famous authors such as Paul Chamfrault, Nguyen Van Nghi, Jean Choain and Jean-Marc Kespi developed the field.
In France as in some other countries, Medical acupuncture in oncology is gradually taking a larger place. Evolving as quickly as this scientific and technical domain, the side effects of efficient therapeutics are better controlled by acupuncture, even in front of new protocols as immunotherapy or genetic therapy.
In our country, midwives learn the acupuncture specific to their field. Initiated in the eighties, it is nowadays practiced by most of them. They support disorders of puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, the period following and menopause.
France is also the country of Ear acupuncture, thanks to Paul Nogier who discovered and developed it in the fifties and later. His work had been carried on by numerous French medical doctors.
France has the longest history of medical acupuncture among Western countries.
You will be received in the “Congress Palace” of Antibes Juan-Les-Pins, wide and comfortable, located at 200 m from the Mediterranean shore, 20 mn from Nice International Airport (by car or train).

President of ICMART
Dear Colleagues, dear Friends,
It is a great pleasure to organize the 38th ICMART congress in South of France, in Antibes-Juan-les-Pins, on November 7-9, 2025.
Three national associations, FAFORMEC in France, ABMA / BVAA in Belgium and ASA in Switzerland, are already working together to offer a world event on medical acupuncture.
Acupuncture arrived in most European countries more than 2 centuries ago and has been practiced ever since.
The theme of this congress is : « Acupuncture from Past to Future » and it will give us the opportunity to share our points of view about « Care, Cure, Evidences, Research and Teaching ».
Each year, it will be a great opportunity to get the newest developments on scientific acupuncture, related techniques and clinical practice.
Even though acupuncture has a lot of indications, we want to make a special focus on its use in Oncology, Pain Management and gynecology-obstetrics.
In some European countries, midwifes are allowed to practice acupuncture. This congress will give us the opportunity to discover this profession.
We will also meet our colleagues and friends from hospitals and universities where acupuncture is already integrated.
The Antipolis-Palais des Congrès will offer us an attractive and very confortable meeting place.
All the hotels are close to the Palais des Congrès. Foods in restaurants and drinks in the numerous bars nearby will allow you to taste the French Life Style.
Located in Southern France, Provence is a very nice and famous region with fine weather.
Antibes-Juan les Pins is a charming city by the sea, 15 minutes far from Nice International Airport.
And we will also offer you the possibility to visit the local treasures and to discover his tastes, flavors and colors.
Come to Antibes-Juan les Pins and enjoy the French lifestyle, the Belgian sense of humour and the Swiss sense of organisation.
Therefore, a warm welcome in France for the next ICMART congress !

Dear esteemed colleagues,
On behalf of the Belgian Medical Acupuncture Association (ABMA/BVAA), I have the honour to invite you to the 38th ICMART World Congress of Medical Acupuncture (ICMART 2025) that we are co-organising with our French and Swiss friends. This event will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Antibes, on the French Riviera, from 7 to 9 November 2025.
As a Belgian representative, it is also an opportunity to perpetuate the legacy of Dr François Beyens, a founding member of ICMART who was also the first members of ABMA BVAA
For its first edition in French-speaking Europe, ICMART 2025 aims to bring together experts, researchers and practitioners from around the world for in-depth discussions on acupuncture and related techniques. This will be an opportunity to introduce our audience to the particularities of acupuncture when it is practiced in other parts of the world, such as Korean or Japanese acupuncture.
But it will also be an opportunity to show the specificities of practicing acupuncture in our regions, such as acupuncture in obstetrics or in anesthesia in the operating room or emergency room.
Beyond the academic sessions, this congress will offer participants the opportunity to share knowledge and build professional relationships. With industry-relevant company exhibits, participants will also be exposed to the latest advances and have the opportunity to develop networks beyond their country.
During your stay in Antibes, I invite you to take a moment to appreciate the unique natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Côte d’Azur. I believe that this atmosphere will provide the ideal setting for this important gathering.
We sincerely hope that you will consider attending, as your participation would greatly enrich the event. We look forward to welcoming you to Antibes.
Kind regards
Dr Olivier CUIGNET
