Chronic tinnitus is a condition of unknown etiology, which can be devastating for the quality of life of thesufferer. However, there is still no treatment with proven curing efficacy or even a relief for these patients. Thisis a challenge for the scientific community in general, and has motivated the authors to design and evaluatethe efficacy of a protocolized treatment strategy with medical acupuncture as a therapeutic option to offer to these patients.
The sample was randomly selected and consisted of 13 patients: ages from 27 to 74 years. All of them were previously studied and had at least 6 months of symptom permanence to be considered an, idiopathic andchronic disease. The clinical history and the symptoms of each patient were qualitatively evaluated. Tinnitus intensity was evaluated with Analogue Pain Scale (EVA) adapted to tinnitus and Tinnitus Handicap Inventory test. Both were applied at the beginning and at the end of treatment to evaluate the degree of improvement intinnitus suffering. The treatment protocol consisted in two systems of neurofunctional acupuncture : locoregional and distal systemic modular system and a microsystem technique, Yamamoto New ScalpAcupuncture (YNSA) Sessions were held weekly for four months.
Results :
Applying the THI there was a positive response in 84.6% of the patients. Applying the EVA scale percentagerises to 92%. According to the results, the range of improvement percentages with THI was from 10% to 80%. Regarding the EVA scale, the range of symptom intensity was from 5 to 8 at the beginning and from 2 to 8 atthe end of treatment.
The results obtained allow us to conclude that AM is a valid therapeutic in the concept of a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of TSCI. More lines of work should be opened.
