Presentation summary

Battlefield Acupuncture an auricular acupuncture module achieves fast pain relief. Developed by Colonel MDMPh Niemtzow in 2001, seeking relief for war veterans for acute and chronic pain. The described technique,French semi-permanent needles are used. Five strategic points are punctured in this sequence: cingulate turnpoint, thalamus point, omega 2, point zero, and shen men . The points are punctured in that order until painrelief. The semi-permanent needles are left for 3 or 4 days, relief is achieved fast.. This work shows theanalgesic effect of the “modified” BFA module due to the needles used (accupunture 0,25 x 0,15) was done unilaterally, and released after the session end. Aim: evaluate pain response in acupuncture consultations afterthe application of the modified BFA. Compare pain relief behavior with the application of body acupuncture

Method :
Prospective observational analytical study. Inclusion criterion : presence of severe pain. Visual AnalogScale (VAS) was used, including reporting of 7 or more. Exclusion: not understanding VAS, mechanical painrelieved by lying down. VAS was recorded at the beginning, at 10 minutes, at the sessions´s end in both groups.

Results :
BFA group n=28 19 female 9 male average age 58 VAS initial average 9, at 10 minutes 4, at end 2 p<0,0001 Control group n=9 6 female 3 male average age 57. Initial VAS average 8 at 10 minutes 6 atend 3. Friedman test shows a significant decrease in VAS from the beginning to the end (p<0.001). If weanalyze the variation of the VAS between the beginning at the first 10 minutes, statistical significance is notachieved (p= 0,157). How ever, the variation between 10 minutes and the end of the session is significant (p<0,0013).

Conclusion :
We can see a rapid decrease in pain intensity in the first 10 minutes for BFA group. Although thecontrol group sample is small, it shows that the pain relief is not so fast as in BFA group in the first 10 minutes Work continues
