Workshop title
The “Seventh Stagnation”: Three Formulas for Treating Yi [Intention, Thought] and Acute Psychological Shock
Scheduled
Day 1, 15:00
Presentation summary
The “seventh stagnation” refers to the Six Stagnations (liuyu) of Chinese Medicine (zhongyi). A disorder of yi [Intention, Thought] accompanies excessive worry, rumination, obsession, and acute psychological shock with mental stupor. Their severity can block any Core (ben) treatment. It requires immediate intervention as a Peak (biao). Otherwise, the disorder can penetrate the Blood and qi and cause significant imbalances.
After summarizing the essential symptoms of acute psychological shock according to the DSM-5, we present three treatment formulas for yi [Intention, Thought] disorder. It also accompanies hun [Celestial Soul] and shen [Spirit] disorder. Indeed, the three Visceral Spirits (shenzang) cited participate in the development of thought and speech. All formulas have been validated by numerous clinical examples.
The first formula uses the so-called 4-needle technique on the Spleen, considered empty.
The second formula indicates the Principal Points (ben) in the treatment of the Visceral Spirits (shenzang). Totreat yi [Intention, Thought], the Principal Point (ben), Transport (shu), of the Spleen is punctured, which is then applied to the other Viscera (zang).
The third formula uses the 4 so-called regulatory points described in the journal Traditional Chinese Acupuncture No. 4, published by the Yin-Yang Institute in 1994.
The first two formulas are indicated for the medium forms where emptiness and fullness are mixed. This concerns Liver-Spleen disharmony and its transformations.
The third formula is applied for Empty forms. Examining the pulse and tongue will help differentiate each situation. The first two formulas are always associated with three rules: treating the Spirit (shen) ; regulating the Blood, the support of mental activity ; stabilizing the “Closure” (kai) of the yangming rich in Blood and qi. We find these three rules in the application of the third formula.
The application of a formula is done immediately or during a background treatment.
